Australia's
National Equipment Database

Our Impact in Numbers

NED's statistics and long history provides that peace of mind among users nationwide.

NED connects you with the right assistive technology solutions you need.

From the very beginning, NED has always linked assistive technology users with allied health therapists, suppliers, and the thousands of equipment products available throughout Australia. We believe every assistive technology user in Australia needs to have the knowledge and tools to research, select and access the solutions they need, with confidence. NED currently has over 15,000 distinctive products listed, making it Australia’s largest assistive technology equipment database. With its long history and reputation for providing unbiased equipment information, NED is committed to using the years of assistive technology knowledge collected from users, suppliers and therapists, and harnessing “out of the box” thinking and technology to create greater connectivity across the sector.

Brief History

NED’s humble beginnings started as a hand-written catalogue of equipment over 40 years ago with contributions from Independent Living Centres (ILCs) across Australia. It was first digitalised almost 25 years ago to create greater access to its information for everyone needing or working with assistive equipment. It was 15 years ago that NED transitioned into a national online information database, stewarded by six ILCs – WA (now Indigo), NSW (now AT Australia), QLD (now LifeTec), ILC VIC, ILC SA and ILC TAS. In 2019, Indigo was entrusted to control and redevelop NED for the long term.

Additional Information

Independent Living Centres Australia (ILCA) is a collective network of member ILCs from each Australian state that identify emerging trends, conduct evidence-based-research and advance assistive technology policy and systems innovation within the Australian context. Although each ILC operates largely autonomously, at their core, ILCs are leading not-for-profit organisations that provide independent and unbiased information, advice, therapy services, training and events for assistive technology and home modifications.
